Spotlight for Jim White

How long have you been cycling? I started cycling in 1981 to rehabilitate my knees after an accident.

What’s your favorite thing about riding? I love the feeling of strength and motion as I power up and over a roller and lean into a turn as I descend on the downhill.

How many miles a year do you typically ride? 4,000+.

What is your greatest cycling accomplishment? Riding to the summit of Mt. Evans in Colorado, the highest paved road in the lower 48 at 14,200’. http://summitbiking.org/area_rides/mt_evans.html.

Why did you join MVBC, and what have you enjoyed most? I joined to be with and learn from more experienced cyclists. I enjoy a spirited, fast-paced group ride when everybody works together.

What’s your favorite road to ride on? Skyline Drive from Oriskany Falls to College Hill Road. It has beautiful views, especially in the fall.

What is your favorite route*? A loop starting in Clinton going through Solsville, Munnsville, and Augusta. It has quiet roads, plenty of climbs, and great views.

What’s the best advice you have for a new rider? Join a club to learn skills and safety from more experienced riders and also where to find good ride routes.
