Spotlight for Janice Williams

How long have you been cycling? As with most of us, since childhood. But as a member of MVBC, over 20 years.

How many miles a year do you typically ride? 1500.

What is your greatest cycling accomplishment? Qualifying for the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and coming home with two silver medals, one bronze medal, and a 5th place finish in four events. It gave me an appreciation of how well MVBC prepared me, given our time trial series and weekly rides.

Why did you join MVBC, and what have you enjoyed most? I was dating this guy named Mark Williams . . .  What I have enjoyed the most is discovering I’m not bad at this sport.

What’s your favorite road to ride on?River Road/Canal Street between Oriskany Falls and Bouckville, or 315 from Waterville to Deansboro.

Where is your favorite Green Sign sprint? One where the guys are yapping and not paying attention.

What’s the best advice you have for a new rider? Ride by yourself at least once a week. It will make you a better rider as you battle the wind by yourself, with no benefit from a draft.
